Where do you come from and how long have the band existed?
Hi ! We’re from Lille, in the North of France, we strated the Lucky Devils in 1999.
How do you define your style of music?
It’s a powerful and efficient kind of Psychobilly, but still having the clean and melodious side of Neo-Rockabilly. One could call it Devil-Billy :
Only The Lucky Devils Are Pure Devil-Billy!
What is the reason for this name "lucky devils"?
We wanted a name that could show our music was part of both Rockabilly and Psychobilly.
In “Lucky Devils”, you got “Lucky”, reminding all the lucky symbols one can find in the Rockabilly scene
(Dice, Horseshoes, cards, Lady Luck...),
and “Devils”, reminding the darker side of Psychobilly (the Devil, Hell, Demons etc.).
That name really represented our music and our style.
On that time, there were not somany bands names with Devils...
What are your musical influences and what bands do you like?
The 3 of us listen to diverse kinds of music, Psychobilly, Rockabilly, but other musics too.
Vivien likes the Krewmen for example, but Skatalites too, and a lot of other styles also.
Ricky likes Mad Sin, but Metal or Skate Punk bands too.
I like OldSchool Psychobilly, but I also loke Rev. Horton Heat, Milwaukee Wild Men, or other stuff like
Django Reinhardt, Cab Calloway, Hank Williams, Deep Purple etc.
We’re very open-minded, is it bad?
Of what do you inspire to write your song?
We take our ideas from life, from things happening around us, from society.
Sometimes from our own experiences, sometimes from things that happened to people we know...
Where and with what bands would you like to play?
We played with a lot of bands we like yet (Batmobile, Warm Up, Swindle, Washington Dead Cats,
Wampas, Phantom Rockers, Mad Sin, Spellbounds etc.).
We like to play with cool bands, people we can party with.
We sometimes played with band we appreciated for their music,
and then after we played with them, we didn’t like them at all anymore, because of their Rockstar behaviour.
Do you have other passions apart from music?
Vivien likes graphism, bikes, sports, food, booze, to go out ; Ricky likes sports, mecanics, I like photography,
old stuff from the 20s to the 60s, motorbikes, food. The 3 of us like hot girls, it’s our main common point.
Do you have rituals before going to stage?
Well… Don’t think so… Most of the time we’re at the bar talking with people before the concert.
A good or bad memory of your tours?
We could tell you stories about each concert, there are so many ! But what we keep about it all is that as a whole (OK, maybe a few exceptions),
it always was cool, nice organizers, warm audience, we always had fun, on stage and before and after the gigs.
Maybe it’s an opportunity for us to thank all the people who trust us and make us play, and all the people who come to see our gigs. Thanks to you!
